cropping

Can someone please quote the law regarding cropping of tails?? The last I heard was that no law has been passed yet???

Ok !! Why do dogs with cropped ears get allowed into the shows .Must say they look well cared for and loved.

As far as I know there is currently no rule about cropped ears. It is the choice of the owner whether he wants to let it done or not. The vets that we phoned re. this sensitive matter says that it has not yet been passed by parlement, so technically it is not law yet. A lot of vets we phoned has stopped cropping for a while now. (hope this info helps)

i worked with SPCA with 2years and as far as i know it is illegal...if they catch you with freshly cropped ears (evidence )etc they will nail you with cruelty charges..same goes for tail docking.

But i'm almost certain that the vets are allowed to if the owner requests it..it's the backyard breeders who crop with kitchen knives who mess it up.

I personally think it looks really good but wouldn't cut my babies ears off....

It is illegal to crop ears and dock tails, it was done in time when fought so the opponent could not grab ears or tail. It is of no health  benefit to the dog, so don't crop them

I do not know where you got your info from, but it is totally wrong. Tails on pitbulls have never been docked. It was done on other breeds for health and safety reasons. Example Boerboels and Rottweilers have very thick heavy tails and will knock down anything in it's way. Because most pets are reared inhouse in was desirable to remove the object of destruction. Small children gets injured when being whipped by the tail through the face or across limbs. Dobermans have thin skinnny tails with little hair on it. When wagging it gets injured very quickly when knocking against obstacles and takes a long time to heal, if it heals at all. A lot of dogs had a piece of the tail amputated because of cangerine that set in. This is just some of the reasons people of the past had tails docked. If you read up on the American pibull that was used for dogfights very few of the dogs had their ears cropped. The dogmen liked the ears long so if another dog gets hold of it, there is no real damage to the dog except the ear. If gripped by the ear they are able to turn and fight back. Without ears they get bitten on the head and a lot more damage is done.
