Heat Rash

Wendy's picture

Hi All,

I'm a new member to this site. I have a beautiful charcoal coloured girl, who suffers terribly with heat rash, and of course I live in the hottest, most humid part of South Africa, Durban.

The heat rash affects mostly her tummy, and the underneath part of her neck. I've tried powder and even fissan paste, but nothing helps.  I recently tried using cold compresses, and that helped a lot, but only temporarily.  When I'm home she's indoors mostly, where its a lot cooler, but when I'm not home, she's outside.  She has a large amount of shade. The verandah is 6m x 5m, and is completely covered by an awning.

Any suggestions??

Till Later,

Wendy

Hi

Hi there

My male also battled with the sun (he is white and brown). You can get a sunblack for dogs at any vet shop.(it is most probably sunburn as well) Alternatively, to ease the rash bath her in sesitive Head and shoulder and apply aqueous or Bio oil after the bath, it takes the red and ichyness away. I also changed his food and also saw a change in the rash, but I was convinced it was from the sun. Also cause she is dark the sun is attracted to her more. Also try and put something down with water in it for her to get into to cool down. Most bullies love the water and will climb into a puppy pool if it's there, specially in places where it is mostly hot.

Good luck

Thanks Charline, I'll try

Thanks Charline, I'll try that.  I especially like the doggy pool idea :)
