Keeping Multiple Dogs Together...........
I have 4 pits, 2 males and 2 females and both are still puppies with one male 6 months and the other male almost 3 months. Thus far i haven't noticed any aggression with my dogs but i have heard that keeping 2 males in the yard is a recipe for disaster. How true is this? What about keeping 2 females?
I tried on numerous times to access this topic on this site but it seems it has been locked.
Keeping 2 x males
Regardless of what type of breed you keep, any 2 males WILL challenge each other for dominance at some stage so as to be the Alpha Male. Keeping 2 x male pit bulls who are known for dog aggression is a disaster waiting to happen, especially if they are kept together. The 6 mnth pit might be the more dominant at the moment purly due to age, but when the 3 mnth Pit comes of age he WILL challenge the older male for dominance and you will have a fight on your hand. In other breeds the more dominant male might throw the other onto it's back and threaten to fight which might be enough for the other male dog to submit, but with PIts that don't back down and respond to a challenge, there will be a dog fight. With keeping multiple females, they too will challenge each other for Alpha Female position and a fight can ensue. With other breeds a major dog fight can be avoided or is less serious, but with PIts you will have a major fight. Hope this helps. A male and female Pit will get on with maybe minor squabbles, but not fights where they are trying to become the Alpha dog,
