NDBC BLACKLIST

PLEASE NOTIFY US OF ANY CASES OF BAD BREEDERS / RAW DEALS / WARNINGS ETC THAT CAN WARN THE PUBLIC AGAINST THESE THINGS HAPPENING TO THEM.

Hi,

Sorry I have been so busy. Please see below can you blacklist the info provided….

On the 23rd of May 2009, I purchased a female black / brown miniature Doberman from Maria Jardin. A week prior to this I had a telephonic conversation with her & she advised me that I wont be able to pick the dog up anytime soon because the puppy was young & under the infra-light. Then she called to say I had to pick the dog up because the mother was attaching her. She also explained that the pup had an eye operation. I agreed to pick the pup up on that Saturday, I also purchased from her a heated pad & clothes for the puppy upon her advise. She advised that all vaccinations where taken. I had the puppy for not even a week, during this time the puppy was very inactive and had blood droplets in her stoles, I assumed the inactivity was due to the fact that she was still so small and it was cold. The blood in the stoles I wasn’t sure of as I didn’t know the symptoms and it was only then that I knew something was seriously wrong. When we took the pup to the PDSA as that was the only place open at the time on Friday morning they diagnosis her with parvovirus, all the symptoms where there. I did research & most of the vets confirmed that dogs become infected with the virus & show clinical signs usually become ill within 7-10 days of the initial infection. The puppy died the same day. When I sms’d Maria Jardin to say the puppy died of cat flu she said we can discuss recompensation on Tuesday as she was on medication & this has never happened before. On the 30th May 2009 she sms’d to say she will not reimburse me with the money or any puppy as she spent too much on the eye operation. I contacted the SPCA to see if I could get my money. They advised that I will have to speak to Maria but they opted to send a Vet down to her kennels to check it out, which they did but luckily for her there was nothing seriously wrong. We contacted Maria again to see if she can relook at her decision, she said she would as long as we got her a letter from the Vet, which we did & it stated the cause of death. She sms’d again after receiving the letter saying that she couldn’t refund as there were no blood tests done, I mean all the symptoms were there & the puppy was dying how could we put it through to more suffering.  The sick puppy she sold to me costed R1200.00. Anyway she gained the money but what I can tell you is what goes around, comes around.

This is just to warn you that you should be careful as losing so much money from people who are in the game just to make money & don’t care about the wellbeing of their dogs deserve to get there license taken away. Please, please I urge you be careful when purchasing from her is ever, maybe get an agreement drawn up so that you have back up for at least 2 weeks as having a dog for 5 days from the date purchased is not on.

Thanks

We recently bought a registered great Dane harlequin puppy from a breeder in
Pretoria named, Mrs Helen Kruger, whom assured us that the puppies were well, fit, healthy and had all there injections done by a vet .

She made arrangements to fly the puppy down to us.  The R 4000.00 we paid to Helen included this. She would also send all the registered papers down with the puppy.

The 30 August 2009, the Sunday afternoon we picked up the puppy from the airport and straight away noticed that he was very under weight.  He was so dirty that when we got him he was a black and cream colour. We took Domino, the puppy’s name, home and gave him a bath, now we had a black and white pup.  The afternoon Domino would not eat anything and only drank very little water and got very dehydrated.  He also had very bad diarrhoea.  We phoned up Helen to enquire about the puppy’s ill behaviour, but she assured us that the puppy would be fine.  It was probably because of the drugs she had given him to stay calm on the plane.  We were still very worried and phoned the vet to ask for advice.  He asked us to bring the pup to them the next morning and told us to try and keep him hydrated by squirting fluids down his throat via a syringe.  All night Domino vomited up whatever we had given him.  His diarrhoea also continued all night long.

Monday morning (31 August 2009) we took him straight too the vet.  He was very shocked, horrified and disgusted to see the state of this pup, which only weighed 4.4kg's @ 7 weeks of age.  He also had ear mites in his ears.  The vet treated him for anorexia and for all possible viruses which they tested for.  The vet gave him an injection of fluids into his stomach to try and keep him hydrated.  We bought pro-biotics and special food to keep him hydrated and the vet told my wife to go home and stay with Domino, which she did.

I got a call from my wife whom was in tears.  The pup had deteriorated so much that he was starting to get convolutions.  I rushed home and picked them both up and took them back to the vet, on arrival at the vet the puppy died.

We contacted Helen and she was very sorry for our loss and said she would send us another puppy from the same pound but from a different litter (from another breeding pair of Great Danes she had) and he would be sent down on the following Thursday 3 September 2009.

Thursday we picked up the new pup.  He was also very thin but looked a little bit better than the previous one.  He was also very dirty.  He had a few sips of water and had one mouthful of food.  He also didn’t have an appetite – not like a puppy should have.

The next morning we took him straight to our vet, he said that McCoy (the new puppy's name) seemed to ok but he was still very much under weight 5,4 kg's @ 7 weeks but he seemed allot more alert.  He tested for viruses but could not pick up anything.  He told us that they wanted to see him the next morning again and we must keep a close eye on him.

For the rest of the day he didn’t eat.  We tried to feed him special puppy pellets to special puppy tin food but no luck.  He also had very little to drink, so we started yet again to feed him with a syringe.

The next morning (Saturday) we took the puppy back to the vet.  He was not eating at all and whatever water he tried to drink was thrown up and he started to get diarrhoea.  The vet gave us more food and fluids to try and give to the puppy.  For the rest of the day the puppy slept on the couch with me and I did not let him out of my site.  As I watched he too started to get weaker and weaker.

Sunday morning we went back to the vet to fill up the puppy’s stomach via a syringe and for the rest of the day we just tried to keep him hydrated.

By Monday morning after not sleeping a wink the whole weekend, we took him to the vet again early the morning. He was struggleling to breath from about 2 am the Monday morning already.  When we got him to the vet well McCoy just could not hold on any more and started to have convulsions at the vet’s office.  He was about to die since he didn’t have control over his bowls and his eyes didn’t open anymore.  The vet said that the only humane thing to do was to put the suffering puppy down.

The vet then asked that they perform an autopsy at no charge us, as they were keen to get to the bottom of this.

They came back with 3 possible viruses which was the cause of death:

Parvo

Garona

Rota

Three highly contagious viruses, due to poor high gene and inoculations.

While all this was going on, we were in contact with Helen who sounded very shocked to here this and offered to pay all the bills and refund our money.

Well we got a surprise when she turned around and said that she would not accept the vets report, and after a long discussion she said she would only pay only R3000, 00 and the rest we will not get, which includes the vet bill for the both puppies of R1500,00 and the flight down to George of R1000,00.

So all in all we lost R2500,00 rand, two puppies and all trust and respect in breeders.

We have spoken to a few people since and have heard similar stories where Helen was involved.

We trust that this letter will get to the right people and who might be able to stop people like Helen Kruger from breeding.

We will be reporting Helen to the PDSA, SPCA, Carte Blanche and Landbou Weekblad where she advertises.
