Meds for Anxiety / to calm dog

Salome's picture

Any advice on something to give a dog for Anxiety and calm them down?

Have a young male and older female, looks like she might be having her "Periods" but they keep on Fighting now and again...

I am really fed-up with it.  I want to take them to get a Micro-Chip inplant, but now I am also scared they might fight again after that!!!

I hear about lots of medicine like, St John's Wart, Chamomile and Magnetic Collars,  Have anyone tried any of them or do you have any advice?

Meds for Anxiety

Hi Salome

Just to understand their reactions, a Pitbull is superior to any other breed and will not submit or back down to another animal. It is in their genetic make up.

From personal experience over the last couple of years I can tell you the following. When a female grows up alone or is the oldest, she is the dominant one. The alpha female. She will try and dominate any other dog in her domain/yard. When a male puppy is put with her it goes well for the first year or so. Then he matures and nature tells him that he is the Alpha dog. He is suppose to dominate. Now they start clashing because neither will give in first. Nature tells the boy "I am boss" and the female because she fulfilled that role before thinks "I am boss" The fighting will continue untill one of them submits to the other one. Usually it ends with one of them getting injured.

For all future first time Pitbull parents, learn from others mistakes. It is better to get a male first and a female later. Because he is there first and the older one, he will naturally dominate the female from the word go. As she grows older, she knows who is boss. But this is only my opinion from personal experience. I don't think medication will help solve your current problems.

Ok, I understand, and thank you for your advice.  It makes sense, because we did get her first, and about a month or so later we got Max.

They did get along well, but we really struggle now, She is very "moody - short tempered" with Max.

I should have asked around before I got them.
