Puppy size and weight

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

I got a 3month old registered rocky/carver last week, but this little girl looks waaay to skinny. At 3months she weighs 5.5kg's.

Is that normal? What are they supposed to weigh??

Please help!

I have to agree size will very, I have a 15kg female grown. A good feed is essential I give all my dogs montego or jock, my pups from 3 months I also give raw feed like chicken livers or beef liver or heart(please read up on it before) I grind it up and semi cook it. U can also look at getting some vitamin boosters like bob martin puppy or from tour vet.

Puppy food and weight

I have a six month old rocky/carver female that weighs just over 17kgs. I feed her Complete Puppy and a high protein meal once or twice a week, which includes either chicken liver/hearts/gizzards or sheep liver/hearts/lungs with rice/lentils and veg. Hard boiled eggs every now and then can also help. Also make sure that she gets enough exercise which is very important for muscle tone, especially when adding a bit of extra protein to their diet. That works wonders for my little girl.

Puppy food

Hi, I have a seven week old female border collie, I am giving her Eukanuba medium breed puppy food, my question is what is the difference between eukanuba and motego puppy food.  Would it be safe to change and does it supply the same balanced nutrition as eukanuba.  Comments would be appreciated

@ Piet should be no problem changing, there is normally instructions on the pack. I have no problem with montego puppy or ostripet

I suggest you buy Montego

I suggest you buy Montego Classic. They were made with Pitbull in mind. A 25kg will cost you R255.00 at Animal Kingdom. Mine were on Pedigree and i switched to Montego. I have noticed a remarkable improvement in muscle tones and my dogs faeces are not that smelly.

I suggest you urgently put

I suggest you urgently put the pup on a puppy grower food eg Top Dog.  you wont go wrong.  it needs a high fat and protein diet urgently.

Hi Atish,

Thank you so much for your advice! I looked for the food with the highest value of protein and fats and was given Hills Science Plan (large breed) So I have been keeping her bowl full 24/7 so she eats as she pleases and then I give her half a tin of the science plan meaty food at night mixed with the pellets!!

 So thank you for your advice! She is looking really good now! Will put up more pictures next week!

Hi Trema

Dogfood makes a big difference in the rate a puppy grows. Make sure the pup is regularly dewormed as this also has an influence. Use a puppy dog food which is high in protein and fats. Keep it healthy and feed 2 - 3 times per day. It also depends on the size of the parents and grand parents. If the last couple of generations produced dogs of 22 - 25 kg, it is unlikely you will have a 30-35kg dog when fully grown.

Hey Ninja!!

Thank you for the advice, as I said to Atash, I put her on high protein food (costs a fortune! ) but its worth it!! :) and I have been keeping her bowl full! I spoke to the breeder on Wednesday and her father was also as small as she was... So I guess the vet got me nervous for nothing!

But she is growing rather big and is a healthy weight now!! lol! so she always has a tummy... Deworming was done when I got her on the 22nd, then again yesterday (7th may) and I have been instructed to do it again on the 15th of May. So all is looking perfect!!

Thank you again for the help! I appreciate it! (Its my first time having a pit puppy! I have only adopted fully grown neglected pits from the SPCA)

I hope the vet did not advise you to use Hills because he sells it. Top Dog is just as good but about half the price of Hills. where are you located?

I have never seen Top Dog... Where do you get it from?
